QQI announces publication of panel report on QA of Joint Programme based on the European Approach
Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) is pleased to announce the publication of its first panel report on the quality assurance of a joint programme based on the European Approach. This comprehensive report evaluates the Pathfinder - Joint International BA in Film, a collaborative initiative involving Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Lusófona University, LUCA School of Arts, and the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA). The panel includes experts from Ireland, Spain, Iceland, and the Czech Republic, bringing together a diverse range of perspectives and expertise to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.
The Pathfinder Joint International BA in Film is a pioneering programme designed to offer students an integrated multi-university education in filmmaking. The programme spans three years and is delivered collaboratively by the partner institutions, with additional contributions from associate partners such as the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Academy of Performing Arts in Slovakia.
The panel report highlights the programme's adherence to the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG). The report also emphasises the programme's innovative curriculum, which includes traditional filmmaking disciplines as well as emerging fields like immersive media and sustainability.
Key findings of the panel report include:
- Strong Cooperative Foundations: Clear governance and cooperation agreements among the partner institutions ensure unified delivery and academic oversight.
- Relevant Curriculum and Learning Outcomes: The curriculum addresses core and emerging aspects of filmmaking, providing students with the competencies required for Europe’s evolving audiovisual sector.
- Robust Mobility Structure: The emphasis on international learning experiences fosters intercultural awareness and professional adaptability, in line with European Commission priorities.
The panel recommends continued attention to consistent assessment practices across all partners, ensuring alignment of grading standards, feedback mechanisms, and student support in each institution. Given these considerations, the panel found the programme - Pathfinder Joint International BA in Film - to be in compliance with the standards of the European Approach.
