New publication: Synthesis of the Education & Training Board Follow-Up Reports
In 2021/2022, QQI conducted an Inaugural Review of the effectiveness of quality assurance established by the 16 education and training boards (ETBs). Each ETB responded to their review report with a follow-up report detailing actions and progress in addressing recommendations made.
QQI have produced a synthesis report, which presents an overview of these follow-up reports, and highlights the evolution and development of quality assurance within the ETBs since the Inaugural Review.
Key findings from the synthesis report include:
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: The ETBs have demonstrated strong examples of collaboration and stakeholder engagement, indicating a maturing and confident sector.
- Amplification of the Learner Voice: Improvements have been made in how feedback is collected from learners and used to inform decision-making and amplify the learner voice. Mechanisms are being developed to embed learner fora, advisory networks, and class representative groups for learners to feed into ETB decision-making processes. There are also signs that seeking a consistency of approach in relation to Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA) is contributing to an improved learner experience.
- Enhanced Data Management: There are examples of ETBs enhancing data management practices and establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform decision-making and planning more effectively.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD): The systemic use of CPD for staff has been promoted to improve the learning experience for students.
This synthesis report reflects a sector evolving and developing its management and enhancement of quality assurance and embedding a quality culture. QQI will continue to work with ETBs to progress the findings of the Inaugural Review and towards the establishment of a systematic quality reporting process.
