Recognising HE Qualifications Globally

26–01–2021

In November 2019, at the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference, the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education was adopted, the first UN treaty on higher education with a global scope.

Guided by the overarching principle of promoting a spirit of recognition for all types of learners, academics and knowledge on the move, the Global Convention establishes an individual’s right to have their foreign qualifications assessed in a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory manner.

It also establishes universal principles for the recognition of studies, access qualifications and qualifications, to improve access to, and mobility between higher education institutions worldwide.

But how do we translate these rights and principles into practical, real world actions?

To help, a new guide has been drawn up that provides a practical step-by-step approach to the recognition of foreign qualifications for both credential evaluation practitioners and for individuals seeking recognition of their foreign qualifications.

This is an excellent practical resource for admissions and higher education personnel, and all those involved in the evaluation of international applications.
